Every year, on the second Saturday in July, Lockleaze has its own community festival on the Green in Gainsborough Square. Saturday 12th July 2003 was the 17th Annual Festival and once again was a huge success. We hope to be running the festival again very soon.

Waltzers at the Festival
Lord Mayor Bill Martin declared the festival open. He and the Lady Mayoress then visited almost every stall, chatting to people, giving support to local organisations and finding a bargain or two. Throughout the afternoon over a thousand people visited Gainsborough Square enjoying the entertainment on offer.
There were fifteen stalls in all, selling everything from balloons and raffle tickets, to clothes, bric-a-brac and books. There was free hair braiding and face painting on offer, as well as information on credit unions and Neighbourhood Renewal and other local projects. Swing boats and a bouncy castle were popular with the children and there was tea and cake for the mums and dads.
In the Grand Arena the crowds were entertained by a whole mix of local talent including the Starlight Majorettes, Cohesion Colourguard and local group, 'Rebel'. 'NanGaz' and Punch and Judy helped to keep the younger children entertained.
Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust now takes a lead in organising the Community Festival and is always looking for more help. If you would like to be involved in planning this year's Festival, which promises to be even bigger and better, contact Richard Reddrop at the Cameron Centre on 0117 9141129.
Do you work for a local organisation? Are you planning to give out awards or prizes to people in Lockleaze during the next few months? Why not do it at the Festival? Ring Richard on 0117 914 1129 to talk about it.
